Weddings at The Red House are a special favorite of ours. The aim each time is to make the day as special and personal as possible. The main focus is to fulfill as many of the couple’s wishes as possible. We enjoy making this a dream come true! We can even arrange a ride around the village in an antique horse-drawn carriage.

Facilities:
With two spacious rooms with hardwood floors, views over the mountains and sea, and a full bar, the halls upstairs are the perfect place for your wedding reception. The north room, Norðursalurinn, can accommodate up to 90 people. The sea-facing south hall, Suðursalurinn, can accommodate up to 50. If the two rooms are taken together, we can accommodate up to 130-140 people, depending on whether there will be a sit-down meal or a buffet table.
Any special wishes regarding decoration will be charged separately.
There is also possibility to have entertainment there at the same time or a dance afterwards.
The ceremony:
The first necessary step to getting married in Iceland is to collect the necessary paperwork. This is done at the District Commissioner in Selfoss (tel. +354-480-1000 – Fax +354-480-1003 – Email: selfoss@syslumenn.is). Secondly if it is your wish to use the local church for the ceremony, you must contact the local priest here at Eyrarbakki (tel. +354-483-1125), the reverend Sveinn Valgeirsson.
He will assist you in two ways, either he will conduct the ceremony or he will give you permission to use the church here at Eyrarbakki. The church holds up to 200 persons, 120 downstairs and 80 upstairs. The Eyrarbakki church was built in 1890 and has a beautiful wooden interior. The altarpiece was painted by Queen Louise of Denmark in 1891 and given as a gift to the church because the town of Eyrarbakki was so important in the relations between Iceland and Denmark, which ruled Iceland until 1944.
It is of course also possible to conduct the ceremony somewhere else, such as on the beach, in the lava fields, at Þingvellir National Park, Geysir, Kerið, etc.—weather permitting, of course.
Reception:
Like everything else, the guest reception can be customized. There is an option of champagne, sparkling wine or any other drink of your own choice for the toast. You may choose to have a variety of canapés or finger food or a buffet or a sit-down multi-course meal. Just let us know what you have in mind and we will accommodate.
Food & Wine:
Our aim is to fulfill the couple’s wishes the best we can so we encourage guests to give us ideas regarding what they are looking for, as well as advice on the choice of menu and wine. In order to give you an understanding of our kitchen, feel free to browse through the a la carte menu and the group menu. Of course we can also accommodate requests not on the menu as well, including vegetarian offerings for all courses and catering to special dietary needs of any sort.
